2008 CLUB 420 ASSOCIATION NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 
NOTICE OF RACE
JULY 18-20, 2008
Stanford University Sailing, Redwood City, Ca


Stanford Sailing is proud to host the 2008 C420 Association National Championship.

1. Date and Venue
The 2008 Club 420 Association National Championship will be held from Friday July 18 through Sunday July 20, 2008. The venue will be the Dean Morrison Boathouse home of Stanford Sailing, 300 Cardinal Way, Redwood City, Ca 94065. Launching and boat storage will be at the Redwood City Public Ramp and parking lot. No boats will be allowed to be present at the venue (unless participating in the Stanford Sailing Camp and Clinic) before 1200 on July 17, 2008.


2. Organization and Rules
2.1 The regatta will be organized by Stanford Sailing in conjunction with the Club 420 Association and will be sailed under the Club 420 Association Rules the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

3. Main and Jib Fleet
A separate start will be provided for "Main and Jib" participants. The "Main and Jib Fleet" is intended to serve as a racing opportunity for less experienced sailors with the Race Committee having the right to establish appropriate race terms and spinnakers will not be allowed. The main and jib fleet will sail inside at the Redwood City Turning basin.


4. Eligibility
4.1 Competitors are required to be current members of the Club 420 Association.

Competitors must have completed all parts of the registration form together with all fees, postmarked by July 3 (or with applicable late fee, received by the Stanford Sailing by 8 PM, Thursday, July 17, 2007.)


5. Format of the Regatta
If there are more than 80 boats registered, the championship fleet may be divided into divisions.

time unless participating in the Stanford Sailing Clinic and Camp)

7. Racing
The racing area will in South San Francisco Bay adjacent to the Redwood City Shipping Channel.

8. Course
The courses will published in the Sailing Instructions.

9. Scoring
9.1 The Low-Point Scoring System, RRS Appendix A, will be used.

9.2
One race is required to complete the regatta. If divisions are established, a race shall consist of all divisions completing a course with results that may be scored.

9.3
A boat's worst finish may be discarded when six or more races have been completed and a boat's next worse finish may be discarded if eleven or more races have been completed.

10. Sailing Instructions

Sailing Instructions will be available at the onsite check-in.

11. Protests
Boats are not exempted from displaying a red flag according to rule 61.1. A boat required to display a flag shall do so until it is no longer racing, and shall inform the Race Committee of the boat being protested immediately after finishing. This instruction changes rule 61.1.

12. Personal buoyancy and Safety
12.1 Each boat entered must pass a safety inspection prior to racing. The safety check list has been provided in Appendix 1 of this notice of race and is located at the Club 420 class website in addition to the Nationals website.

12.2 Each competitor must wear a US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD), properly secured at all times, from dock to dock except when temporarily adding or removing clothing. Wet suits, dry suits and inflatable PFDs do not constitute adequate personal buoyancy. Failure to wear one will result in a penalty up to and including disqualification.

13. Safety
13.1 Parents, guardians or competitors 18 or over at the time of the start of the event are responsible for the safety of the competitors. It is the responsibility solely of the parent(s) of the competitors, or in the instance of the competitor who is 18 or over, the competitor, to decide if the competitor should sail in the weather and sea conditions that might arise during the event. Parents of competitors under 18 not personally attending any part of the event must ensure that another adult is authorized and designated to make these decisions for their child.

13.2 A whistle must be attached with a lanyard to clothing. Competitors not complying with this instruction shall be given a penalty of five (5) points for each race in which they have failed to observe this instruction.

13.3 All boats may be subjected to a safety check.

14. Coach and support boats
All coach and support boats shall register and shall prominently fly a designated flag from a staff, supplied by the Race Committee, at all times while in the water.

15. Liability

Participants compete entirely at their own risk. A waiver must be signed by all competitors and their parent/guardian if the competitor is under 18.

16. Entry fee

The early entry fee will be $150 per boat if payment is postmarked on or before July 3, 2007. Registrations postmarked after July 3, 2008 and by July 10, 2008 must pay $200 per boat for the registration fee. Postmarked or received after July 10, 2008 and prior to 8 PM Thursday July 17, 2008 must pay $225 per boat for registration. No registration will be accepted if not received by Stanford Sailing by 8 PM on July 17, 2008.

17. Trophies
Championship Fleet
Overall: 1st through 5th
Top Girls: 1st through 3rd (both skipper and crew are female)
Top Juniors: 1st through 3rd (both skipper and crew under 17 throughout 2008).

Main and Jib Fleet
Overall: 1st through 5th

18. Designated Adult
18.1 Each competitor under 18 shall identify in writing a parent or adult representative that shall responsible for the competitor throughout the event.

18.2
For each competitor under 18, it is the competitor's parents' (or designated adult) decision to enter the regatta and to start or continue any race. The adults supervising the competitors are ultimately responsible for the risks.

18.3 The designated adult will accept full responsibility for all actions of the competitor during any activity related to the event. This includes on-shore activities before, during, and after the regatta.
